Cars are different from parcels. Here's the practical sequence.
You find the car (or we help β see "Shopping assistance" on the pricing page). We verify VIN, title, and that the seller can release it cleanly. We send wire instructions and an inspection checklist.
We collect the vehicle from the seller, transport it to the Port of Miami (or East Coast equivalent), and prepare it for RoRo loading β fluids checked, fuel low, paperwork sealed in the cabin.
RoRo (roll-on roll-off) vessel. ~3 weeks Miami β Drammen, depending on schedule. Container shipping available for high-value or fragile classics at higher cost.
We file the tolldeklarasjon, declare CO2/NOx/weight values, and pre-pay MVA + engangsavgift. The car clears customs while still at the port.
We hand the car off to Statens Vegvesen for the registration inspection ("registreringskontroll"). Once it passes, you get Norwegian plates. Total time customs-to-plates is typically 1β3 weeks.

Norway applies bruksfradrag β an age-based discount on engangsavgift β to all used vehicles, regardless of fuel type. Skatteetaten updated the official satser on 1 January 2024 to be much more generous, especially for older cars. The calculator above uses the full table from Skatteetaten's bruksfradragstabellen:
The big change in the 2024 satser: a vehicle 20 years or older pays no engangsavgift at all. This is the modern "veterankjΓΈretΓΈy" reality β a 2005 Mustang now imports tax-free on the engangsavgift line. A 1969 Camaro likewise. The classic-car path has gotten dramatically cheaper in the last two years.
Bruksfradrag applies to the engangsavgift only β MVA, vrakpantavgift, refrigerant tax, customs documentation, and Statens Vegvesen registration are still full price.
